The
Price of Education Just Went Up
House Democrats passed their
version of education adequacy today and the price of education
went up. Democrats are
not willing to admit how many millions of dollars education costs
will increase, and they are hiding the price tag of their plan by
refusing to allow a public discussion of its true costs in the
House Finance committee.
“Democrats claim they are
bringing transparency to government but only when it is convenient
for them. They are afraid that when you see the price it will be
clear as day that an income tax is on the horizon.
They are hiding their spending from the taxpayers,” said
Republican Leader Michael Whalley.
The Democrat plan includes
mandatory statewide kindergarten for the first time.
The Claremont Decision says nothing about kindergarten, but
does state that anything included in a definition of “an
adequate education” must be paid for by the state. “This will
cost our citizens tens of millions of dollars to build facilities,
hire staff for communities without kindergarten and pay for
existing kindergarten programs,” said Rep. David Hess.
“It’s an unfunded mandate to
our towns and cities. Where are the Democrats going to get the
money to pay for their new spending plan? When are they going to
come clean with the taxpayers?” asked Rep. Sharon Carson of
