CONCORD, NH – State Representative Sam Farrington (R-Rochester) released the following statement after HB 1793-FN, the Protecting College Students Act, passed the House Criminal Justice and Public Safety Committee on a vote of 7-6.
“The Constitution does not say that you have the right to keep and bear Arms unless you’re a college student,” said Farrington. “The Protecting College Students Act ensures that our taxpayer-funded institutions respect the rights of all citizens to defend themselves. Being a student should not require a surrender of your God-given rights and we refuse to force Granite Staters to choose between their education and their personal safety.”
“New Hampshire is one of the safest states in the nation,” he continued. “While we never want to see a tragic day of violence on our campuses, our caucus is fighting so that we have survivors, not victims. Our caucus will fight so that no one has to wait minutes when seconds count.”
