Deputy Majority Leader Joe Sweeney (R-Salem) released the following statement, in reaction to a Federal Judge issuing a temporary stay order on the State Budget’s DEI provisions.
“New Hampshire taxpayers, not unelected activist judges, get to decide how their hard-earned dollars are spent. The legislature passed and the Governor signed a responsible budget that ended wasteful DEI spending and restored the principle of equal treatment under the law.
This temporary stay from a handpicked federal judge is nothing more than judicial overreach, an attempt to legislate from the bench and force political ideology into our public institutions. The people’s elected representatives set state policy and determine the budget, not partisan lawyers in robes doing the bidding of special interest groups.
House Republicans will continue fighting to make sure state resources are used for education, public safety, and tax relief, not divisive DEI bureaucracies that put politics ahead of people. We will not back down, and we will not allow Washington judges and out-of-state activists to run roughshod over the will of New Hampshire voters.”
