Democrats Have Tried to Raise Taxes By More Than $1.6 Billion

CONCORD, NH – House Ways and Means Committee Chairman John Janigian (R-Salem) released the following statement after House Democrats tried and failed to pass HB 1596, which would have raised taxes on Granite Staters by $83.9 million.

“Tax hikes may be the norm in Massachusetts, but not here in the 603,” said Janigian. “Just two months into 2026, House Democrats have proposed more than $1.6 billion in increased taxes on Granite Staters. Today’s defeat of yet another $83.9 million Democrat tax hike is a victory for Granite Staters, their wallets, and the New Hampshire Advantage.”

“Throughout this year, Democrats will continue to propose more and more tax increases and I hope Granite Staters at home are keeping score. With tax and spend Democrats in control of their party, we very literally can never afford to give them a majority.”
