CONCORD, NH – House Majority Jason Osborne (R-Auburn) released the following statement after House Democrats filed a floor amendment in an attempt to hijack the New Hampshire Advantage Amendment to pave the way to enshrine a progressive income tax into the State Constitution.
“After months of acknowledging that Granite Staters overwhelmingly oppose an income tax, House Democrats led by Taxin’ Tom Oppel are ignoring the will of the people to once again launch an all-out assault on your pocketbook.”
“Rather than joining Republicans to protect the New Hampshire Advantage, Democrats are trying to lay the groundwork to place a one-billion-dollar annual income tax into the State Constitution. Democrats claim to care about affordability, but are trying to hijack the Constitution to protect their “so-called” right to tax every single cent that you make.”
“Granite Staters are not going to fall for this. Democrats are trying to destroy the New Hampshire Advantage and come November, the voters will remember which State Representatives stood up to protect them against an income tax, and who is trying to tax them into oblivion.”
Background: CACR 12, the New Hampshire Advantage amendment, is set for a vote on the House Floor on Thursday. Representative Tom Oppel (D-Canan) filed Floor Amendment 2026-1903h, to pave the way for an income tax.
