House Republicans Protect 2A Rights

CONCORD, NH – Today, New Hampshire House Republicans secured a major victory for law-abiding gun owners and the constitutional rights of Granite Staters by defeating two anti-Second Amendment bills: HB 56-FN and HB 352-FN. The defeat of these blatant attacks on the rights of citizens uphold New Hampshire’s commitment to individual liberty and responsible gun ownership.

House Criminal Justice Committee Chairman Terry Roy (R-Deerfield) celebrated the victory, stating:

“Today, House Republicans stood firm against yet another attempt by anti-gun Democrats to chip away at our fundamental and Constitutional rights. The bills that we defeated today had nothing to do with public safety and everything to do with government overreach and restricting the freedoms of law-abiding Granite Staters. The people of New Hampshire have made it clear time and time again that they will not tolerate attacks on their Second Amendment rights, and we are proud to have upheld that standard.”

Background:

HB 56-FN sought to impose an unnecessary and unconstitutional mandatory waiting period on lawful firearm purchases, even after a federally required background check was successfully completed.

HB 352-FN attempted to strip law-abiding citizens of their right to self-defense by prohibiting the possession of firearms at polling places, an overreach that sought to fix a problem that simply does not exist.
