House Speaker Comments on Non-Concurrence with Senate on Education Funding Bill

CONCORD – House Speaker William O’Brien today commented on the non-concurrence vote in the House with the Senate version of a constitutional amendment on education funding. Concurrence of CACR 12 was voted down by a 54 to 287 vote followed by a non-concur and a request for committee of conference vote of 295 to 48. House members appointed to the committee of conference include Representatives Lynne Ober, David Hess, Michael Balboni, and Andrew Renzullo.

House Speaker William O’Brien

“We look forward to working with the Senate during the committee of conference process to identify ways to ensure that we can give the voters an education funding constitutional amendment on the ballot. Any such amendment must allow us to eliminate the statewide property tax, target school funding for those communities truly in need, ensure that those elected by the people—not unelected judges—set education policy for the state, and reinforce parents, teachers and local school boards control the education of our children. The House version of CACR 12 would address each of these areas.”
