CONCORD, NH – The New Hampshire House of Representatives passed HB115, legislation which will establish universal availability for the wildly successful Education Freedom Account (EFA) program. This legislation ensures that more families can choose the best education for their children, leveling the playing field for students across every income level.
State Representative Valerie McDonnell (R-Salem), prime sponsor of HB115, released the following statement after the passage of HB115:
“This bill ensures children will no longer be turned away from education that best meets their needs, prioritizing students over systems. EFAs empower parents—not the government—to decide the best educational pathway for their student, whether it be in a public, private, charter, or homeschool setting. Given the program’s wild popularity, it is only logical that we expand it to give every student a level playing field and the chance to achieve the best possible education.”
McDonnell continued, “The wildly successful Education Freedom Accounts have been incredibly popular and have changed the lives of thousands of students. In spite of the misinformation that opponents spew, every single EFA dollar is audited and publicly available. While local school budgets continue to grow and grow, the EFA program has saved the taxpayers over $266 million in the last five years. Expanding EFAs means more educational opportunities, greater accountability, and stronger outcomes for students. Competition drives schools to improve, ensuring every child—regardless of background—can thrive.”
McDonnell concluded, “I thank my fellow Republicans for passing this critical legislation and look forward to sending this bill to Governor Ayotte to give students the opportunities that they deserve.”
