House Republicans Invite Democrats to Join Income Tax Ban Hearing

House Majority Leader Jason Osborne today announced that the New Hampshire Advantage Amendment will receive a public hearing in the House of Representatives.

“Last week, House Democratic Leadership stated publicly that they opposed Governor Candidate Andru Volinsky’s proposal for a billion-dollar income tax,” said Osborne. “When legislation to permanently prohibit an income tax came before the House, however, their caucus voted against it. Ostensibly concerned about the process. We heard you.” Said Osborne.

“The New Hampshire House values bipartisanship, which is why we will hold a public hearing on the New Hampshire Advantage Amendment. This hearing will give Granite Staters the opportunity to speak directly about preserving New Hampshire’s longstanding commitment to remaining income-tax free,” Osborne continued. “It will also provide House Democrats another chance to clarify their position and join Republicans in supporting a constitutional ban on an income tax by co-sponsoring this paramount piece of legislation.”

Background

The New Hampshire Advantage Amendment would constitutionally prohibit the House of Representatives from adopting legislation establishing an income tax in New Hampshire.

Democratic legislators have supported or sponsored legislation in 2026 totaling approximately $3,998,331,000 in tax increases, including proposals contained in HBs 1596, 503, 1144, 1480, 1090, 1580, 1707, 1708, and 1293, as well as past support for Governor Candidate Andru Volinsky’s proposal that included a $1 billion income tax and $1 billion in additional property taxes.
