Republicans Delivered on Bail reform, In Spite of the Democrats

MANCHESTER, NH – State Representative Steven Kesselring (R-Manchester) released the following statement after Manchester Democrat Patty Cornell (D-Manchester) was caught whining on Social Media about New Hampshire’s successful bail reform package.

“Democrats did all they could to stop our successful bail reform package. From trying to tack on last minute amendments to water it down, to outright trying to prevent a vote on the bill, to killing the bill outright, Democrats proved that they do not care about the safety of our state. Republicans got the job done in spite of Democrat obstruction.”

“Patty Cornell can whine all that she likes, but the fact of the matter is, one year in and the streets of Manchester are safer than they were before. Thanks to the leadership of Republican majorities in the House and Senate, Governor Ayotte, Mayor Ruais, and law enforcement, we are ensuring that violent and repeat offenders are off the streets and away from your family. We are proud of the work we’ve done on this issue, and will continue to ensure that Manchester and the entire Granite State is safe.”

Background:

ON March 13th, 2025, Buzz Scherr’s (D-Portsmouth) attempt to gut HB 592 with Floor amendment #2025-0939h failed 171-209. Then, Nick Germana’s (D-Keene) attempt to table the bill failed 177-202.

At 11:18 AM on April 7th 2026, Patricia Cornell (D-Manchester) posted: “No position on bail reform, but has anyone figured out the cost to the counties with an increase in jail population. Counties will be responsible for increased costs without any financial aide from the state.”
