CONCORD, NH- House Deputy Majority Leader Joe Sweeney (R-Salem) released the following statement after yesterday’s public hearing on the New Hampshire Advantage Amendment.
“I would like to thank our Democratic colleagues for their work on analyzing the New Hampshire Advantage Amendment. For a caucus who cares so much about making life more affordable, banning a statewide income tax should be their top priority,” Sweeney said.
“While I believe this amendment is good to go, Democrats were so insistent this amendment needed corrections. To that, I say: let’s get to work! We encourage any technical corrections Democrats may view as necessary in order to support the New Hampshire Advantage amendment. We are so close to banning an income tax in the state of New Hampshire. The only thing stopping us are the hordes of House Democrats who want to keep the door open for an income tax to saddle generations of Granite Staters,” Sweeney concluded.
Background:
At the hearing for the New Hampshire Advantage Amendment, Democrat Mary Hakken-Phillips claimed that the amendment “needed corrections.” This excuse was used to mask the fact that she opposes the policy, having voted against the New Hampshire Amendment the last time that the issue was debated on the House Floor.
