House Democrats Vote for an Income Tax

CONCORD, NH – House Education Funding Committee Chairman Rick Ladd (R-Haverhill) released the following statement after Republicans defeated HB 1799-FN, a $675 million tax increase sponsored by Democrats.

”Granite Staters deserve to know what is really happening here,” said Ladd. “New Hampshire spends more than $1 billion a year on public education, but Democrats want to force you to pay an additional $675 million more per year, just because of an opinion, not a ruling, from a judge. How exactly do Democrats plan to raise this money? The answer is obvious. Today Democrats voted for an income tax.”

“Democrats don’t want you to believe your lying eyes. When they say they don’t support an income tax, read this bill and look at what they’re trying to do. Republicans are pushing for schools to be more efficient, effective and accountable. Meanwhile, Democrats want to take hundreds of millions of dollars out of the paychecks of Granite Staters just because a judge spun a wheel, saw a number, and thought it would be a good idea.”

“The Court needs to stay out of the legislative lane, and Democrats need to stay the hell out of your wallet.”
