HOUSE REPUBLICANS APPLUAD GOV. AYOTTE FOR SIGNING TAXPAYER PROTECTION ACT

CONCORD, NH- House Election Law Chairman Ross Berry (R-Weare) released the following statement after Governor Kelly Ayotte signed HB 1300, the Taxpayer Protection Act, into law earlier today.

“I applaud Governor Ayotte for signing HB 1300 (The Taxpayer Protection Act) and joining State House and Senate Republicans in taking a significant step to protect New Hampshire property taxpayers. New Hampshire already spends the fourth-most per pupil in the nation, yet families continue to face outrageous increases that are taxing people out of their homes despite state education funding being at record-high levels. A UNH poll found that voters supported a school spending cap by more than a 20-point margin, even when the proposal was presented as a spending cap rather than the property tax protection contained in this bill. The Taxpayer Protection Act puts the question before the largest number of voters possible and gives them the opportunity to take back control,” Chairman Berry said.

BACKGROUND:

HB 1300, (Third New Title) establishing a school district local tax cap question for the state general elections of 2026 and 2028 and related limitations on central office administrative expenses in school districts, also known as the Taxpayer Protection Act, places a question on November Ballot asking voters if they would like to limit property tax increases to inflation.
