New Hampshire House Opens the Door for Advanced Nuclear Energy

CONCORD, NH – The New Hampshire House of Representatives has passed HB 710, a forward-thinking energy bill that defines advanced nuclear resources in state law and allows utilities to enter long-term contracts for clean, dependable nuclear power. This legislation marks a significant step toward securing New Hampshire’s energy future with reliable, low-carbon energy sources. House Science, Technology, and Energy Chairman Rep. Michael Vose (R-Epping) highlighted the bill’s technical and functional impact:

“HB 710 ensures New Hampshire is prepared to integrate advanced nuclear energy into our power supply. By allowing utilities to contract for up to 20% of their electricity from new nuclear sources with terms of up to 20 years, we are creating long-term stability for both providers and consumers. This legislation makes clear that New Hampshire is open for business when it comes to clean, reliable nuclear energy.”

House Majority Leader Jason Osborne also emphasized the bill’s alignment with conservative principles:  “HB 710 is a pro-market, pro-energy independence victory. Instead of relying on short-sighted energy policies, we are embracing long-term, cost-effective solutions that reduce dependence on unreliable sources. The message is clear, shield granite state ratepayers from energy related market volatility.”
