CONCORD, NH – House Deputy Majority Leader, Joe Sweeney (R-Salem), released the following statement after Representative Thomas Oppel (D-Canaan) failed in his attempt to reintroduce HB503, a bill that would raise taxes by more than $640 million over the next two years.
“It is no surprise that House Democrats tried to bend the rules to raise your taxes by more than half a billion dollars.” Deputy Leader Sweeney said. “On top of trying to resurrect the Interest and Dividends Income tax, Democrats targeted Granite State businesses and restaurants in a shameless attempt to put more money in the state’s coffers. This is now the fifth time in three years that tax-and-spend Democrats have tried to force an income tax on New Hampshire.”
Deputy Leader Sweeney continued, “In March, House Republicans overwhelmingly killed this ridiculous proposal on the floor. Republicans continue to stand strong in defense of the New Hampshire Advantage. No Income Tax. Not Now. Not Ever.”
