House Republican Leader Applauds Veto of HB685

Concord, NH- House Republican Leader Dick Hinch (R-Merrimack) released the following statement in response to Governor Sununu’s veto of HB685, relative to insurance plans that cover maternity benefits. This bill mandates insurance plans which cover maternity benefits to provide coverage for emergency or elective abortion services.

“If you are concerned about the cost of health insurance now, just imagine how much more it would be if insurers would be required to provide coverage for abortions,” Hinch said. “If you are concerned about abortions, just imagine if your insurance premiums went up because the government told insurance companies they have to cover abortions. Any way you look at it, whether you are pro-life or pro-choice, this bill goes too far. Out of all the insurance mandates Democrats have passed this year, this is the most egregious. Republicans will be united sustaining the veto.”
