CONCORD, NH – House Deputy Majority Leader Joe Sweeney (R-Salem) released the following statement after introducing HB511-FN, relative to cooperation with federal immigration authorities, into the House Criminal Justice and Public Safety Committee.
“If we do not have secure borders and common-sense immigration policies, then we do not have a country. Disastrous sanctuary state policies have destroyed our neighbors in Massachusetts and threaten our own communities. Meanwhile, New Hampshire Democrats have continually denied the border crisis, attempted to defund our Northern Border Alliance, and even defended an illegal immigrant mass murderer who was apprehended in Rye.”
“Today, Republicans say ‘no more’ to lawless open-border policies and introduced HB511, which will outlaw dangerous sanctuary city policies that put Granite Staters at risk. Republicans are stepping up to protect our communities by refusing to turn a blind eye to illegal immigration and the catastrophic sanctuary policies that have been a scourge on our public safety. This bill ensures that New Hampshire remains a place where we encourage legal immigration while standing by the rule of law.”
